Appetizer and Snack Tips for Diabetes

People with diabetes need to avoid appetizers and snacks made of high sugar or saturated fats. Apple Slices & Sugar-Free CaramelThe goal should be to have  a mix of fiber, protein, unsaturated fat, and carbohydrates. Here are a few suggestions on what to eat:

  • Serve cut-up raw fruits or vegetables with low-fat dip for a mid-morning break

  • Serve fruit and vegetable fondues
  • Chop berries or tropical fruits, mix with fresh basil and balsamic vinegar, spread on thinly sliced, toasted baguettes
  • Spear fruits or vegetables on skewers and grill

  • Crush berries and mix into ricotta cheese, serve as spread for crackers
